Custom Mouthguards

A mouthguard is one the most important pieces of sports equipment, yet it's one of the most commonly overlooked.

Here at Best Dentist 4 Kids, we know that the best way to protect your child's smile during sports and recreational activities is with a custom mouthguard. Compared to drugstore stock fit or “boil-and-bite” mouthguards, the custom mouthguards offered by BD4K are vacuum formed: providing greater comfort, a superior fit, and increased protection for your child’s teeth.

Why are mouthguards important?

While most people believe mouthguards are only necessary for contact sports like football and hockey, organizations including the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Association of Orthodontists, and the Academy for Sports Dentistry all recommend the use of a mouthguard when participating in any sport or activity that involves a risk of injury. Why risk damaging your smile or gums when you can wear a mouthguard?

Best Dentist 4 Kids MouthGuardsmWhatever your child’s sport or activity of choice may be—football, skateboarding, hockey, baseball, volleyball, gymnastics—a custom mouthguard from BD4K is one of the best ways to ensure that their smile and mouth are protected.

Mouthguards typically provide protection by covering the upper teeth. When in place a mouthguard serves as a cushion capable of minimizing damage caused by a blow to the face, significantly reducing the risk of serious damage to the teeth and soft tissues of the mouth.

According to the National Youth Sports Safety Foundation, an athlete who doesn’t wear a mouthguard is 60 times more likely to damage their teeth. Despite this, a recent survey by the American Association of Orthodontists discovered that nearly 84 percent of children and teens don’t wear mouthguards while playing organized sports because they are not required to.

Making your child's custom mouthguard:

According to American Dental Association recommendations, your child is ready for a custom guard once they’ve reached 7 years of age and all their front adult teeth are present. Once you’ve chosen to purchase a custom mouth guard with Best Dentist 4 Kids, impressions of your child’s teeth will be taken in office to start the mouthguard making process.

From there, the impressions will be sent to the lab to be processed, with the entire mouthguard fabrication process taking about 2 weeks. The mouthguards that we offer are made with a soft plastic, making them both effective and comfortable to wear. Best Dentist 4 Kids’s mouthguards are made with a vacuum form process that provides an ideal custom fit, and enhanced protection for your child’s smile.

A custom mouthguard from Best Dentist 4 Kids is one of the best ways to ensure that your child will be safe while doing what they love, and that they'll always be able to keep on smiling!
