Tobacco—never cool
Tobacco is harmful in any form. Be sure to teach your child the dangers of tobacco.
Smokeless tobacco use is on the rise among teens. They think it isn’t as harmful as cigarettes. Smokeless tobacco may be more difficult to quit. One can of snuff equals 60 cigarettes. Mild use can cause periodontal disease and pre-cancerous white lesions. If your child is a tobacco user you should watch for the following that may be early signs of cancer:
1. a sore that won’t heal
2. white or leathery patches on the lips and on or under the tongue
3. pain , tenderness or numbness anywhere in the mouth or lips
4. difficulty chewing, swallowing, speaking or moving the jaw or tongue.
Early signs of cancer or not painful and are often ignored. IF not caught in the early stages the treatment is disfiguring, or worse fatal.
